Fight against food waste: the meetings of the InnoNets project are underway

Food innovation starts from sustainable consumption and new economies of recovery.

Local institutions and actors compared in the roadshows and infodays promoted by the Puglia Region and ARTI

 

Bari, 19 June 2019 - Starting from 20 June, the roadshow of the INNONETS project, promoted by the Puglia Region and ARTI - Regional Agency for Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with Legacoop Puglia and the Polytechnic University of Bari, shall be implemented on the theme of contrast to food waste.

 

Thursday 20 June (10.30 - 15.00) in Brindisi (Palazzo Granafei Nervegna), Friday 21 in Andria (Chiostro San Francesco), Monday 24 in Lecce (former Sant'Anna conservatory) and Tuesday 25 in Foggia (Civic Museum): four dates in four cities to deepen regional programs and initiatives on the subject, to get in touch with local actors engaged on a daily basis on sustainability issues, to navigate between food sharing, new economies of recovery and social innovation for a better sharing of resources.

The Apulia Region - Research, Innovation and the “Institutional Capacity Section and Active Social Inclusion and Innovation of Social Networks” - at each stage in the morning sessions, shall present programs and initiatives to support innovation and reduce food waste, and ARTI , shall present the INNONETS project and its opportunities.

In the afternoon sessions, the testimonies of local actors engaged in the fight against food waste shall be presented. Speakers from projects and associations for social promotion such as Market Solidale di Fasano, Avanzi Popolo 2.0, Recuperiamoci Bisceglie and Comunità Emmanuel - Le Sorgenti shall give us their points of view on the issue.

The stage of Brindisi shall be attended by: Tania Guerra, from the Research, Innovation and Institutional Capacity Section, who shall introduce the meeting, Valeria Patruno, from ARTI, shall present the INNONETS project and its opportunities, together with Katia De Luca by Legacoop Puglia, and Teresa Chimienti, from the Active Social Inclusion and Innovation Section of the social networks of the Puglia Region, which is about to present programs and initiatives to support the reduction of food waste.

In the afternoon the testimonies of the territorial area of ​​Brindisi shall be presented by Isabella Lettori, Councilor for Welfare and Social Services of the Municipality of Brindisi and Roberto Covolo, Councilor for Youth Policies of the Municipality of Brindisi, and of "The value of time ”- Market solidarity on the net, by Francesco Trapani.

The meetings fall within the scope of the InnoNets project (funded by the European Interreg VA Greece-Italy “2014-2020” Cooperation Program), which aims to encourage territorial cooperation in the agri-food sector between the Puglia Region (in Italy) and the Ionian Islands Region (in Greece). The project idea is to focus on innovation facilitation processes in favor of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), pursued through Cross Border Thematic Living Labs involving research organizations, businesses, local government bodies and civil society.

The project partnership, apart from the Ionian Islands Region (Greece) which is the leader, is also consisted of the Puglia Region - Department of Economic Development, Innovation, Education, Training and Work (PB2) with the technical support of ARTI, the Polytechnic of Bari (PB3), the Corfu Chamber of Commerce (PB4), and the Regional League of Cooperatives and Mutua di Puglia (Italy) (PB5). The Hellenic- Italian Chamber of Commerce and the University of Basilicata are also the two Associated partners of the project.

Other meetings within the project are scheduled for June 26 at the Polytechnic of Bari, where Urban Food Policy, that is food strategies for cities and islands, will be discussed, and June 27 in Taranto: in the latter, organized by Legacoop Puglia, innovation facilitators will meet agrifood companies.

A series of workshops will be held in July, which will see the Puglia Region and ARTI engaged on the themes of the circular economy and the fight against food waste on July 5 in Taranto and July 8 in Foggia, Legacoop on the theme of innovation in the SMEs of agriculture on July 10 in Lecce, and the Polytechnic of Bari on July 11 in Brindisi on the theme of sustainable cities and islands.
